This virtual event is an opportunity for students & graduates in the AIIA community interested in learning about the experience of a young professional in the United Nations system.

Ching Wei Sooi (Graduate Professional at UNIDIR) shares his unique insights for those interested in a career in multilateral systems.

Speaking in a personal capacity, Ching Wei shares his experiences from internships in the United Nations offices at Geneva & Vienna – the day-to-day tasks and participation in high-level conferences. He will reflect on today's complicated geopolitical environment & the key skills that he thinks are important for pre- and early-career professionals.

With the speaker's background in outer space policy & IR, this talk uses space as its theme. Space underpins our modern way of life, from shipping to banking, and has become intertwined with everyday activities such as personal communications, travel, and work. Space-based technologies and space-derived data serve both civil functions and military ones too, as states increasingly use & rely on space for security.

In many ways, the space environment reflects aspects of other areas of importance: emerging technologies, collaborative action, and more broadly, the current state of multilateralism. For emerging scholars & young professionals, these topics are likely to be of increasing importance and relevance to future careers.

You will have the opportunity to ask questions to the speaker & gain valuable insight into internships within bodies like the UNIDIR.
