AIIA SA and the University of Adelaide invite you to join Dr Rob Manwaring as he presents on the UK General election of 4th July. It is highly likely that the Labour party under Keir Stamer will take office, after 14 years of Conservative rule. The presentation will cover the key electoral battleground areas, and the electoral contest in the UK. The context for the contest will be outlined with a focus on some of the major developments including the post-Brexit wash-up, and the political disastrous rule of Liz Truss.

The UK is often categorised as a two party system, and most media commentary focuses on the battle between the Conservatives and Labour. However, a new multi-party system is emerging, especially in Scotland and Wales, and the conservatives facing a challenge from Nigel Farage's populist Reform UK party.

The presentation will also cover the key policy debates and differences between the parties, outlining the landscape for the contest. Overall, the future of UK politics is outlined, and it remains far from clear if a new political order will emerge from the rolling crises that have afflicted the UK.
