This year, the Philippines and Australia announced the elevation of bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership during the visit of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to Manila in September. The two countries have a robust cooperation in many areas spanning 77 years and shaped by their shared history in the Second World War. From fighting the scourge of terrorism and building inter-operability, the two governments have agreed to further enhance cooperation on security and defense, including the conduct of an annual defense ministers' meeting and the possibility of joint patrols in areas of common interest.

The Philippines has demonstrated leadership in upholding the rule of law and sees Australia as an important partner in promoting multilateralism, UNCLOS and the 2016 South China Sea Arbitration Award. At the regional level, Australia is the first dialogue partner and the first Comprehensive Strategic Partner of ASEAN. The Philippines is committed to deepen its strategic engagement with partners including Australia in support of regional peace, stability and shared prosperity.

The Hon Enrique Manalo, Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines, will discuss recent developments in the country's relationship with Australia, including the priorities of the Strategic Partnership and how the two countries are working together to ensure a rules-based international order that facilitates global action. This will be followed by a conversation with the President of the AIIA SA.
