Political commentary on the geopolitics in the Pacific are fixated on geopolitical contests amongst major powers. Yet, little attention is being paid to the emerging ethical dilemma's arising as a result of this competition.
Increasingly, Pacific people are concerned about both the historical and ongoing distress of this unstable contest. Pacific people understand this to be an ethical dilemma as the consequences of strategic competition in the region can have negative repercussions that are out of their control. AUKUS represents a new security arrangement that will have ongoing implications for Pacific nations. A lack of transparency and consultation with leaders in the region sees the arrangement viewed with skepticism and caution. How can the interests of Pacific people be reflected in this competition?
Join us as Maima Koro explores the ethical dilemmas of the Pacific people, AUKUS and calls for a 'relational approach' to security as a means to reimagining the rules-based order in the region.
